Deelfontein Court, Guest Houses, Rondavel and Bush Camp

In the seclusion of the south-western core of the Vredefort Dome, about 20 km from Parys and 14 km from Vredefort, you will find the farm Deelfontein nestled between the high, concentric ridges of South Africa’s youngest World Heritage Site. It is the near-pristine environment, the interesting geology of this oldest and largest meteorite impact site, as well as numerous remains of the stone- and iron age inhabitants, the Boer War, and the early gold mining activities, that make the Dome such a prime tourist destination.

Deelfontein Court offers a dining hall, kitchen, recreation rooms and bedrooms around a courtyard and is currently under construction.

Two comfortable farm houses, a rondavel, and a bush camp for those who want to escape from civilisation, offer accommodation at Deelfontein. The guest houses lie about 300 m apart, and the bush camp is situated 1 km away, ensuring privacy. The two houses and camp are also ideally suited to large groups. Up to 46 persons in total may be accommodated on the farm.

All buildings on Deelfontein are equipped with modern waterless composting toilets to preserve and protect our scarce water resources.

Other Facilities

Seminar facilities in several spacious rooms, as well as function facilities including a large separate braai area complement the accommodation. The observatory may be booked for stargazing. Camping is possible for those who prefer sleeping in a tent.

 Activities

The activities include swimming in the large 15 m pool, which is situated at one of the guest houses and equipped with change rooms and toilets. On Deelfontein itself, a large number of shorter and longer day hiking routes invites the visitor to explore the area on foot. These trails form part of an extensive trail system comprising more than 60 km of trails, the Meteorite Hiking Trails. For mountain bike enthusiasts, the farm offers a variety of easy to severely technical mountain bike trails. The Dome is a bird paradise, and on Deelfontein the trails take you to various habitats, ideal for the birding enthusiast. For a brochure of the bird species sighted in the Dome, and for guided birding tours, contact Jan Fourie at 056 811 2078. Likewise, there is ample opportunity for those interested in plants, reptiles and other animals. Make sure you bring your field guides! For a complete tree list, click here. The clear night skies far away from the light pollution in the cities often surprise visitors who have not seen the Milky Way for a long time. For stargazing excursions, contact the owner. General information on the night skies above Deelfontein you will find at www.skyandtelescope.com.

In the immediate vicinity of Deelfontein various product owners provide a variety of activities, including fly fishing, horse riding, white water canoe trips on the Vaal rivier, and much more. Consult www.parys.co.za for more information.
